Government and Military Transtions
These career moves can be particularly challenging. The jargon and job descriptions used by Government and Military(G/M) organizations are not the same as the jargon and job descriptions used by private businesses. Your experience and skills must be translated into terms that Human Resources personnel, hiring managers and professional recruiters for companies in the private sector can understand and relate to the jobs they are trying to fill. Here are three examples of G/M transitions. They were created for Résumé Plus clients who wanted to leave Government and Military positions to pursue employment in the private sector. Their names and other personal information have been modified of course.

When David Compton retired from the military in 2005, he asked Résumé Plus to market him for a position with a government contracting agency. We did, and Mr. Compton was hired by Dupree Technologies as Vice-President and General Manager. After about a year, Mr. Compton decided to take his career in a different direction altogether, and work for a company that was completely unrelated to government and military programs. Once again, he chose Résumé Plus to assist him with achieving his new career goal by redesigning his résumé.

Emily Long had been the equivalent of a Chief Financial Officer in the U.S. Air Force for about 20 years. She was ready to retire and wanted to pursue opportunities with companies that contract with the military. These potential employers need to know more about a candidate's government experience than most other private businesses. It was important to mention that Ms. Long had met the responsibilities of managing financial matters for key military programs. It was equally important to note her secret security clearance.

The dream of Wilfred Green and his family was to live in a log cabin in Kentucky. Mr. Green's family lived in Kentucky and after years of transfers during his military career, he and his wife wanted to go back home. Security management was only one area in which Mr. Green pursued opportunities. Résumé Plus developed several different versions of his résumé. A few months later, he called to say that he and his family were enjoying life in their new log cabin in the hills of Kentucky.
